“Teaching 13-17 Year Old Children to Read for the First Time in Their Lives”
Parents are unable to pay school tuitions, so many children grow up not knowing how to read or write.
37.9% of the population is unable to read or write, as compared to only 12% illiteracy in the rest of Latin America.
Less than 20% of schools have electricity; 39% have potable water; 15% have a library.
When parents don’t know how to read, the children never learn to read either.
Without these necessary skills, the future is hopeless for so many children. There is little possibility of learning a trade, getting a job, avoiding drugs, and having to sell themselves or get hired as a domestic.
So Harvest for the Poor has developed a FINALLY LEARN TO READ program, where 13 - 17 year old children are taught to read and write for the very first time in their lives. You can imagine — they are so HAPPY!!!
